Brian went in for PRK surgery today. It's kind of like Lasik but way more painful. The results are better vision for both surgeries but they achieve it in different ways. I won't gross you out with details. :-)
The pain is more than he ever anticipated. Most of the problem lies with the way his body assimilates (is that the right word?) medication. Pain medication might work once if he takes a large enough dose (usually 2-4 times what we normal people take). Then the second time it doesn't work as well, if at all. The doctor gave him a prescription for 25mg of Demerol. He took 150mg before it did anything for him. :-( I talked to the pharmicist to make sure he wasn't overdosing and he's not. Yet. I called the doctor and told him what was happening because Brian was crying with the pain and this is a man who might cry at a chick-flick but not with pain! The doctor offered to prescribe a sleep medication with the hopes that he will sleep through the worst of the pain. So far it's working better. He's been quite drugged up all evening!!!! And I'm not ashamed to say I'm keeping him that way if at all possible!!! I hate not being able to do anything to stop the pain.
I called our neighbor and 2 of them came and gave Brian a wonderful blessing. I'm praying that he will sleep well tonight and feel much better in the morning.
